Women empowerment refers to the process of giving women the power, confidence, and freedom to make choices and control their own lives. It includes equal access to education, employment, legal rights, and political participation. Empowering women helps promote gender equality, reduce poverty, and create more inclusive and progressive societies. It is essential for building strong families, communities, and nations. At CROF, empowering women and children is our core value and we are totally committed to the cause.
CROF has been instrumental in uplifting widows by offering financial assistance, vocational training, and mentorship to foster self-reliance. Notably, in collaboration with Women Aligned for Growth (WAG) and the Widow Advocacy Coalition in Nigeria (WACIN), the foundation launched comprehensive empowerment programs that have enabled many women to start their own businesses and achieve economic independence . Additionally, during the Ozubulu Development Union Lagos branch women’s wing end-of-year event, CROF empowered twenty women, further demonstrating its commitment to women’s empowerment .
The Christy Ray Okoye Foundation (CROF) stands as a beacon of hope for widows and underprivileged children across Nigeria. Founded over three decades ago by Ambassador Christy Ray Okoye (née Ikeotuonye), the foundation is deeply rooted in compassion, inspired by the humanitarian legacy of Mother Teresa. Operating primarily in Lagos and Anambra State, CROF has consistently provided support to vulnerable communities through empowerment programs, advocacy, and direct aid.
eyond direct aid, CROF actively advocates for systemic changes to improve the lives of Nigeria’s vulnerable populations. Lady Christy Ray Okoye has called for the Nigerian government to enhance the standard of education, making it free and accessible to all children, and to provide comprehensive healthcare from birth . She emphasizes that investing in the youth is synonymous with investing in the nation’s future.
hrough its unwavering commitment to service, the Christy Ray Okoye Foundation continues to transform lives, embodying the principle that one does not have to be wealthy to make a significant impact. As Lady Christy herself asserts, “You don’t have to be rich to make an impact” .thesun.ng
